Anneliese Valcheff Obituary

At 85 years of age, Anneliese Maria Valcheff of Moon Township succumbed to a decades-long battle with multiple ailments. Anneliese was known for her tireless willingness to help. She was a loving mother with a strong will and fierce determination. She fought her medical battles with courage.

Born in Aalen, Germany, to Anna (Hofmann) and Franz Xavier Straub where she was an accomplished gymnast and learned to become a bookkeeper. Anneliese was the third of four children. Surviving WWII she came to Long Island, NY sponsored by her aunt ‘Tante Marie’. She would learn passable English from television commercials and newspapers and soon enrolled in a school that launched a career as a stewardess with Capitol Airline and would lead her to her dear husband Paul. She was a loving mother and strived to raise her family in the American dream. Anneliese also was a gifted seamstress. No job was too small, or too large, as she was happy to tailor and craft for family, friends, and the church–and an occasional customer. She is remembered as a member of the Saint Margaret Mary Community for over 50 years; proprietor of the old Last Resort Lounge; a neighbor in the Hyde Park community; one of the most accomplished Boy Scout leaders in Western Pennsylvania, a dear swim mate in the TwingesForHinges program at the YMCA, and everyone’s favorite late night waitress at Eat’n Park. Anneliese will also be remembered for the so very many, many activities in which she delighted: cooking, entertaining, German model trains, crocheting, knitting, and tending to her home, garden and pool. In retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the USA, but would always make it to Florida each winter.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Paul Dimitry Valcheff Jr.(1939-2007), her sisters and their spouses Erika Vogel (Conrad), Luzia Griesser(Theo) and her brother Herbert Straub. She is survived by her four children, Paul Valcheff (Kim) of Cumming, GA, Barbara Dickson (Tom) of Sewickley, PA, Christopher Valcheff (Jess) of Barneveld, WI, and Eric Valcheff (Lucy) of Crafton, PA. Anneliese dearly loved her 11 grandchildren: Chelsea (30), Cassandra (26), Carly (25), Christian (20), Julianna (18), Graben (15), Dimitri (14), Theos (14), Rowan (13), Xi Magnolia (12) and Arwen (9).

Visitors will be received at The Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, 328 Beaver Street, Sewickley, PA 15143, on Friday, April 14th, from 3-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 15th, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church - Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Moon Township.
