Dr. Gloria J. Coates-Hogan MD Obituary

Dr. Gloria J. Coates-Hogan MD., was born on October 17th, 1941 in Fayette County, Pa. and passed away on May 2, 2020 in Moon Township, Pa.  She was a remarkable and celebrated physician who attended Columbia University in New York, NY. While living in New York she modeled for the renowned Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. However, it was her passion to serve others through the practice of medicine that prevailed and led her to service communities and dignitaries throughout the United States, Africa and the European continent.  Dr. Coates-Hogan was a loving and devout woman of God who had a zest for life and loved to travel and meet new people. As a result, this led her to spend many years living abroad in a various countries and exploring the world with her family. While living in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire) for 12 years she acquired a passion for gemology.   She also had a love of the arts and literature and at one time was a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum of Art, in NYC. She enjoyed oil painting, listening to gospel music and during her younger years was quite the seamstress; often creating the most fashionable outfits to rival those found on 5th Avenue (NY).  Dr. Coates- Hogan’s return to her childhood home in Sewickley, Pa., was fueled by her need to care for her now deceased parents, WWII Veteran Mr. William Rucker and Mrs. Vera A. Rucker. Loved and adored by many due to her caring nature and disciplined hand, Dr. Coates-Hogan MD., was always available to offer sound advice and counsel to those in need, day and or night. She genuinely loved people.  She is survived by her husband, Percy Hogan Jr. a former staff Sergeant in the Air Force and Vietnam Veteran, as well as her three daughters: Karess L. Rogers , former judge Genii A. Rogers Esq., and Brandy J. Daley. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Karess J. Frederick, Jazzmyn A.R. McAllister, Adonis K. Mwanza and great grandchildren: Captain I. Casey and Cypress D. Casey.

Dr. Coates- Hogan, will continue to be loved and greatly missed, but never forgotten. As the matriarch of this close knit family we are proud to have had the opportunity to have been a part of her glorious, adventurous, and exciting life and are grateful to have been blessed to have taken the journey of life with her.
