Giovanna "Genine" Calabrese Obituary

Giovanna "Genine" Mallamaci Calabrese, 85, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, after a brief illness.  A 58 year resident of Sewickley, Genine was born on January 25, 1937, in Motta San Giovanni, Italy to the late Domenico and Porsia Morabito Mallamaci.  She was the devoted wife of the late Michael W. Calabrese, who preceded her in death in 1986.  Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Santino and Natale Mallamaci, her sisters, Emanuela Sgro and Isabella Pratico, and son-in-law, John Nestor.  She is survived by her two loving daughters, Lucy (Joe) Wargo and Porsia Nestor.  Bella Nonna to Daniel, Jeremy (Emma), Kayleigh Nestor and Grace Wargo.  Also surviving are her brother, Giuseppe (Benadetta) Mallamaci and sister Antoinetta (Nicola) Callea, brother-in-law, Anthony Calabrese, sister-in-laws, Josephine Vitale and Carmela DePace, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews both here and in Italy, Genine moved to America in 1963 after marrying Micky in her hometown of Motta.  In 1972, she became a proud citizen of The United States.  She was dedicated to her family, was a wonderful wife and mother who loved to spend time with her grandchildren.  Throughout the years she made several trips back to Italy to visit her family.  Genine found joy in baking her homemade bread, drop cookies, and making her famous meatballs that she loved to share with her neighbors, friends and family.  She had a green thumb and was especially proud of her fig tree, Genine will be remembered for her generous heart and her infectious smile.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  Friends will be received at The Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 328 Beaver Street Sewickley, PA 15143 on Tuesday, February 8th from 2-8 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Glenfield, PA at 10:30 AM on Wednesday February 9, 2022.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
