Dr. Harold Jordan Garber, 67, of Sewickley, 67, passed away after two years of fighting cancer Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Jordan was born in Queens, N.Y., in 1954, to Morris and Alice (Rose) Garber. He graduated from Yale University in 1976 and worked at Yale Psychiatric Hospital, where he set his path to medicine and went on to graduate cum laude from Loyola Medical School in Chicago in 1982. Jordan did his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and postdoctoral research in brain imaging at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Jordan and Randi Morgan married in her hometown of Whitewater, Wis. Oct. 16, 1988. Their son, Max, was born the following year, and in 1990 they moved from Los Angeles to Sewickley. From 1996 to 2012, Jordan was selected each year by fellow physicians as one of "The Best Doctors in America: Northeast Region" (Woodward/White). Jordan was a fixture of the medical community in Pittsburgh, having worked at many institutions in the area and serving on executive and IRB committees. In addition, he was author of numerous research publications. His most recent work was at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sewickley (previously HealthSouth), beginning in 2010. Beginning in 2007, he was a perennial delegate to the Pennsylvania Medical Society. Jordan was an avid jogger and ran several marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He loved the outdoors, hiking and camping with his family and dog. Jordan was a lifelong golfer and a strong proponent of golf course etiquette. He loved hockey and baseball; he was an enthusiastic Penguins fan, an eternally hopeful Pirates fan and a long suffering Red Sox fan. Throughout everything, Jordan was known for his sense of humor. There was always an unexpected twist, a play on words or a zinger in the middle of an otherwise serious conversation. In recent years, he rediscovered his love of creative writing, authoring two screenplays. Jordan was preceded in death by his sister, Rella (Joel) Berman, of Long Island, N.Y., and is survived by his wife, Randi Morgan, son, Max Garber, and brother, Henry (Carol) Garber, of Long Island, N.Y. Dr. Garber is memorialized with a dedication plaque at the therapy gym at Encompass Health Sewickley. Donations may be made in his memory to Encompass Health Sewickley. The time and place of a memorial gathering will be announced in the near future on Instagram, (@randimorgan3021). Arrangements are by COLE FUNERAL HOME, Sewickley.
