Joan "Jennie" (Rupert) Pitts

Joan "Jennie" Pitts, 95, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Born in Sewickley in 1926 on Thanksgiving Day to Antonio Rupert and Raffaela DeGori, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ernest "Ernie" F. Pitts Sr. The youngest of five, Jennie was known for her generosity and hospitality. In her Italian tradition, but also out of her innate kindness and compassion, Jennie always looked to help and feed people. She was an outstanding cook, with legendary spaghetti dinners and many a cookie table graced with her creations. Her home served as a gathering space for decades, where she welcomed everyone and treated them like family. Jennie loved to read, play cards, and observe nature from her house in the countryside. She is lovingly remembered as "Mum" by her children, Joyce Adler, Ernest F. (Patricia Kim) Pitts Jr., and Timothy (Christy) Pitts, and "Nana" by her grandchildren, Jason Pitts, Elizabeth Adler, Tristan Pitts, and Dylan Pitts. In addition to her nieces and nephews, she was Aunt Jennie to many others. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable contributions be made in Jennie's name. All are invited and welcome to remember Jennie at Richard D. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 328 Beaver St., Sewickley, PA 15143, from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 16 at St. James Parish, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, PA 15143.
