Lois Fowler Striffler Obituary

Lois Fowler Striffler, age 93, of Bell Acres, was peacefully called home to her Lord and Savior, while surrounded by family, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. Born to the late Stanley Hess and Emily (Theys) Hess on December 29, 1929, Lois led a full, rich life always holding family first. Lois was preceded in death by husband William H. Fowler and her second husband Jack Striffler.

Those who knew Lois are fully aware of her spiritual faith and zest for volunteering. Lois was a 73-year member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, as well as a founding and charter member of the Big Sewickley Creek VFD Ladies Auxiliary. At her church, there was not a vacation bible school, a dinner, a cherry pie sale, an apple butter sale, a cookie sale, or raffle without Lois volunteering and contributing. Her commitment to the community and particularly the Big Sewickley Creek VFD Ladies Auxiliary was unparallelled. Lois, not long ago, proudly told the younger auxiliary members about going house to house selling bricks to build the original fire house. It would be impossible to count the number of fish fries, roast beef dinners, catering events, craft shows, bake sales and other fundraising efforts that Lois participated in.

Lois also loved sports. As a teenager she was a state gymnastics medal winner before graduating from Ambridge High School in 1948. For seven decades, Lois attended Little League, Quaker Valley High School, and Miracle League Baseball games and she was an avid Pirates fan.

Lois is survived by her five children: Cindy Fowler (Boyd Addlesperger) of Mansfield, OH, Kerry Fowler (Deborah) of Leet Township, Gayle Mayes of Bell Acres, Clyde Fowler of Leetsdale, and BJ Fortuna (Wayne) of Bell Acres; eight grandchildren: Llalan Fowler, Washington, DC, Clyde Fowler, Jr., Ambridge, Nathan Robinson, Tionesta, Joshua Fortuna (Nikki Polites), Cranberry Township, Chelsey Fascetti (John), Allison Park, Brianna Massot (Valentin) Angers, France, Emma Osselborn (Keith), Wexford, and Miracle League All-Star, Jayne Mayes, Bell Acres; and five great-grandchildren: Gia Robinson, Avery Fortuna, Ella Fortuna, Aleigha Polites, and Alivia Polites.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 670 Pleasant Hill Rd., Wexford, PA  15090. A luncheon reception and brief ceremony will follow immediately at the Big Sewickley Creek VFD, 1850 Big Sewickley Creek Rd., Sewickley, PA 15143.
