Martin Glenn LeCornu, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the age of 90, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
Born on March 26, 1933, in Biggs, California. Martin was the son of the late Ronald and Lois LeCornu (Moreland). Martin, known to family and friends as Marty, was a quiet and strong individual with a witty sense of humor. He always had the perfect one-liner at just right moment. He was a hardworking man who dedicated himself to being a good husband and father while providing for his family.
Marty is survived by his loving wife, Claudia (Corbett) LeCornu, and their children: Mark LeCornu, Matthew LeCornu, John LeCornu, and Rachel LeCornu. He will also be remembered by his 7 grandchildren: Destin LeCornu, Justine Trim (LeCornu), Amanda Jane Shockley (LeCornu), Ryan Goss, Jacob Sieben, Kate Sieben, and Megan Sieben; as well as his 5 great-grandchildren: Didier Trim, Gigi Trim, Aiden Sieben, Violet Sieben, and Hazel Sieben. Marty was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne LeCornu (Bacchi), and two grandchildren, Joshua LeCornu and Christian LeCornu.
Marty grew up in Sacramento, CA where, after graduating from Sacramento Senior High School, he served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1953. His ship, the USS Delta, experienced combat in the Korean War. He went on to pursue Electrical Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. Following his education, he married Claudia in December 1956.
Marty's career spanned various fields, showcasing his versatility and dedication. He worked as an Electronics Technician at Aerojet Corporation, where he contributed to the development of NASA's Apollo rockets. After leaving Aerojet, he followed in the footsteps of his Firefighter father and served as a professional Firefighter for the City of Sacramento, California for almost 30 years.
Marty found solace and community at St. James Catholic Church in Sewickley. He cherished his time spent there, finding comfort in his faith. In his free time, Marty enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, eating shrimp tacos, and traveling.
Martin LeCornu will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of strength, dedication, and love will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 13th at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church. Burial to follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements are entrusted to RICHARD D. COLE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 328 Beaver St., Sewickley, PA 15143.
