Our beloved son, Matthew Allen Benson, age 41, of Sewickley, passed peacefully into his Savior’s arms on Saturday, October 21, 2023. He left behind his loving parents, Clifford G. Benson, Jr. and Cheryl E. Benson; his two treasured brothers, Gregory (Courtney Elizabeth) Benson and Paul Benson; and his four nieces, Brinsley Grace, Charlotte, Blakelyn, and Savannah, whom he adored. He is survived by his Uncle Frederick (Beverly) Allen. He was preceded in death by his Uncle Robert Benson.
Matthew was a kindhearted man; bright, compassionate and loving. He played football and hockey at Quaker Valley High School and football in his first year at Geneva College. Matt loved fishing and water sports. From a young age, Matthew enjoyed cooking for his family and liked to prepare gourmet meals for them. When Matt prepared a meal, everyone was treated to a culinary delight. He was a passionate Penn State football fan and a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins. He loved to read and enjoyed discussions about the books read. Matthew was generous with his time and as a teen and young adult often volunteered with his dad on community projects.
Every day of Matthew’s last eight years of life he demonstrated courage, strength, perseverance and faith. His infectious laugh and attempts at singing were guaranteed to brighten your day, and he endeared all who came to know him. We are especially grateful for the wonderful people who cared for Matthew, especially his beloved caretaker, Tanya Troup.
Matthew will be deeply missed. He will be forever treasured in the hearts of his family and friends. We celebrate his precious life and are joyful that he is in heaven with his Lord, Jesus Christ.
