Matthew B. Green, 72, Ambridge, passed away on January 2, 2026. He was born on August 4, 1953, in Pittsburgh, a city he loved throughout his life.
Matthew was a true bon vivant—a lover of fine food and wine, cigars, travel, and spirited conversation. A wine distributor and entrepreneur, he built a life and career around his passion, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm generously with others. His appreciation for all things French—culture, cuisine, and wine—was legendary among family and friends.
He possessed an astounding depth of knowledge on a broad range of subjects. Ask Matthew about even the most obscure topic, and he would always know something about it.
Theater was one of Matthew’s great loves. Over the years, he acted in, directed, and helped produce more than 50 local amateur theater productions. He found joy in the creative energy of the stage both on and off.
A lifelong lover of cats, Matthew shared his home and heart with many feline companions over the years, delighting in their personalities and companionship.
Matthew was also an avid orchid enthusiast, and a devoted Pittsburgh Penguins fan. He proudly attended the very first Penguins game, an occasion he cherished as part of the team’s history and his own.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 41 years, Paulette, with whom he shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, his brothers Jon (Jean) Green, Eric (Carmin) Green, sister-in-law Alice Permigiani (Mark), and by nine nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his sister Janet.
All are welcome to join Matthew's family for visitation on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the RICHARD D. COLE FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1316 4th Ave., Coraopolis, PA 15108, from 2:00 p.m. until time of Celebration of Life service at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately to the family.
