Renee W. Tobias Obituary
Renee W Tobias, age 93, of Sewickley Heights, PA passed away on December 10, 2020. Born March 26, 1927 in Mount Kisco, NY, Renee was the third and youngest child of Polish immigrants Carl and Francis Wesolowsky. She is preceded in death by her husband George, her brother Alex, her sister Alice, and her eldest daughter Kim. Renee is survived by four of herchildren (Carl, Keith, Kerry, and Craig), eight grandchildren(Kyle, Collin, Wesley, Sarah, Ashley, George, Emma, and Christian) and four great-grandchildren (Julian, Leila, Mia, and Sebastian).
Renee led a rich, fulfilling, and productive life. She came of age near the end of World War II. Trained as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the US Cadet Nurse Corps she later specialized pediatrics in New York City. There she met George Tobias and they were married in 1953 and soon started a family. Five children later Renee and George moved to Sewickley, PA in 1965. Over the next decades Renee divided her time between raising their, sometimes unruly children, returning to nursing at Sewickley Valley Hospital, and helping George start a fledgling business. Renee eventually became Executive Vice President of that business working alongside her eldest sons. She was a woman before her time. One of strength and kindness, clarity of purpose and an inexhaustible will to protect those she loved.
She adored her grandchildren, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading on the beach, and all things owl. She will be remembered for her commitment to family, sharp wit, and sometimes questionable, but always freely-given, advice. Renee touched the lives and hearts of so many in the Sewickley community. We are happy and privileged to have been a part of her life. While she will be sorely missed by so many, we take comfort in knowing that she is finally resting peacefully.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers, Barbara and Maggie, the doctors and nurses at UPMC Presbyterian and Heritage Valley, the staff at the Edgeworth Club, and the ladies of Hair Symmetry II in Edgeworth for their years of caring for our mother/grandmother.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, plans for a memorial service are on hold, pending future announcement. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
