Obituary

Ronald B. Hitchens, age 84, of Sewickley, PA, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Viola (Stegeman) Hitchens and granddaughter Alexandra Daugherty.

Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years Bonnie A (Miller) Hitchens, daughter Tracy Daugherty (William) of Ligonier, PA, son Michael Hitchens (Tara) of Coatesville, PA, and son Christopher Hitchens of Sewickley. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Emily Daugherty, Mason Daugherty (Kayla), Jackson Daugherty, Margaret Hitchens, Abigail Hitchens, and Alexis Hitchens, and three great-grandchildren Kendyl Daugherty, Finnegan Daugherty and Molly Daugherty.

Ron was well known in the Sewickley soccer community, dedicating years to youth soccer programs. He was a founding member and president of the Pittsburgh Hotspurs Soccer Club, served on the PA West board, and assisted with the Quaker Valley soccer team in the mid 1990’s. Ron was honored to be inducted into the PA West Hall of Fame in 2019 for his decades of devotion to youth soccer. Ron was a United States Army Reserves and National Guard veteran who served in various states for six years.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at The Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 328 Beaver St., Sewickley PA, 15143In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (curealz.org) in Ron’s memory.
