Ulysses Winn Jr. Obituary

Ulysses R. Winn, Jr. transitioned peacefully, at a local hospital, on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.  Ulysses was the oldest of seven children, born to the late Eula M. Covington and Ulysses Winn, Sr.  He was the much loved husband of Laura (Lucy) Winn, of Sewickley, and the beloved father of Ulysses M. Winn of Pittsburgh and Erik De Andre Robinson of Ramstein, Germany.Ulysses was the proud grandfather of Isabella Rachel Winn, of Allison Park, PA and the brother of Christine Keaton, of Phoenix, Arizona and Sally Farris of Baltimore Maryland; he cherished a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Ulysses graduated from Fifth Avenue High School, Pittsburgh, and Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach, Florida.  He was an alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his graduate and postgraduate degrees, including a Ph.D. in Counseling Education.

Ulysses not only excelled in civilian education; his 37 year military career stood out, as well. He enlisted in the United States Army, in 1966, and received his commission in 1973.After years of varied and successful duty assignments, appointments, decorations, and awards, Colonel Ulysses R. Winn, Jr. retired from active duty in 2000.  During the following 16 years, he accepted three consecutive positions as Senior Army JROTC Instructor at Westinghouse High School, inPittsburgh, Albert Gallatin Area High School, in Uniontown, PA, and Connellsville Area Senior High school, in Connellsville, PA.

Colonel Winn’s exuberant and positive personality was exemplified in the love and time he shared with those around him.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Richard D. Cole Funeral Home on November 1, at 9:00 AM-11AM.  The funeral service will follow at Christ Church at Grove Farm, 249 Duff Road, Sewickley, PA, at 1130 AM.  Interment will take place the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ALS Association of Western, PA.
