Warren Clark Obituary

Warren Martin Clark was born December 10, 1931, in Porters Falls, WV and died on Sunday, December 24, 2023 in Sewickley, PA. He was the eldest son of Velda Taylor Clark and Thomas Alexander (Alec) Clark. He was raised on a farm in the hills of Wetzel County, WV where he learned love and respect of the land and all living things. He inherited a strong work ethic from his parents and grandparents and learned how to thrive when times were lean, how to make do with what one had and the importance of lending a willing helping hand to neighbors and others in need. He graduated from Tyler County High School and then served in the army as a Corporal during the Korean War. Afterwards he began studies in Engineering at the College of Steubenville on the GI bill while also starting a job at Weirton Steel. Through one of his army buddies, Guy Wagner, he met the love of his life, the beautiful Rose Mary Muti from Butler, PA and they married in 1955. He left college early to earn a steady salary at Weirton Steel for his growing family. He worked there for the next 40 plus years in a variety of areas, including the blast furnace and eventually as brakeman on the steel mill’s railroad. He built their home at 160 Orpha Avenue in Weirton with his own hands and tools, pretty much on his own, brick by brick. He  served as an outstanding role model of kindness and hard work and supported his family well, assuring that all of his three children were able to pursue higher education and all three chose to attend West Virginia University.

He was active in his local American Legion and supported his wife, Rose, in her many volunteer activities at St Joseph the Worker Parish, the Weirton Senior Center and Weirton General Hospital.

He was a skilled woodworker, loved playing cards with friends and family, was an avid reader, cross word puzzle solver and lifelong learner. He was highly intelligent and correctly guessed more final jeopardy answers than most contestants even at age 92.

After Rose’s passing in 2018, he finally left the home in Weirton and spent the next five years of his life in Sewickley with his daughter, Dr. Barbara Clark.

He felt welcomed by the Sewickley Community and especially by all the friendly faces at the Sewickley Valley YMCA where he spent several mornings a week at the gym and also enjoyed the friendly faces at Safran’s supermarket.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Rose (Muti) Clark; his brothers, Lowell Howard Clark, and Stephen Clark and sister, Jewel Anne Clark.

He is survived by his brother, Jerry Samuel Clark of Weirton WV. He is also survived by his children, Robert Eugene Clark and wife Beth of Morgantown, WV, Daughter Brenda Kay Clark and her husband Brain Gordon of Pittsburgh, PA, and daughter, Dr Barbara Anne Clark of Sewickley PA. Also survived by his grandchildren, Alexander Harland Shannon and wife Brittany Moncure of Columbus Ohio, Andrew Clark Shannon of Raliegh NC, Thomas Lowell Clark and wife Laura of Stowe, Ohio and great grandchildren, Anthony Martin Clark and Theodore August Clark of Stowe, Ohio. Also survived by many close friends, including Charles and Josephine Elliot of Weirton WV and John Fullard of New Brighton, PA as well as several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
