William (Bill) Irvine Jack, 86, a longtime resident of Sewickley, Pennsylvania and Westcliffe, Colorado and most recently of Amelia Island, Florida and Camden, Maine, died on May 29, 2021 in Portland, Maine. 

He was born on April 5, 1935 in Titusville, Pennsylvania to James Ernest and Anne (Irvine) Jack. Following his graduation from Titusville High School, he received his BA from Allegheny College, MA in History from William & Mary, and JD from Harvard Law School. 

He was a public finance attorney in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for nearly 30 years before moving to Westcliffe, Colorado and becoming a rancher and conservationist. He was an engaged and dedicated community member in each of his chosen hometowns. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Allegheny College, a founding member of the San Isabel Land Protection Trust, a member of the Custer County Zoning Board, a board member of the Wet Mountain Community Foundation, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Trust for Public Land, Colorado.

Bill will be most missed for his enthusiastic joy in life, curiosity, passion for lifelong learning, sharp sense of humor, deep interest in the lives of his grandchildren, and ability to offer wise counsel to his family. He was always ready for an in-depth discussion, a glass of good wine, and a funny story, preferably all at once. He was a military history buff, lover of natural beauty, artist in his youth, collector of landscape paintings of the places he lived, great friend, and sports enthusiast, both when playing tennis, squash or golf, and when cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates and the Allegheny College Gators football team.

He is survived by his wife Lynn C. Jack, daughters Amelia Jack Bond (Art) and Laura E. Jack, sister Elizabeth Jack Bell (Bruce), his six grandchildren, step-daughters Sarah Todd (Ken Grimes) and Virginia Todd (Warren Cockrel), and two step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his previous wife Suzanne (Smokey) Boice Jack and his parents. He will be laid to rest among family and next to his late wife in a private burial at the peaceful Mount Irwin (formerly Amity) Cemetery in rural Venango County.
